ServiceTitan Marketing Pro vs. Hiring an Agency: An Honest Comparison

If you run ServiceTitan, someone has pitched you Marketing Pro. The pitch writes itself: your marketing tool sitting inside your operating system, using real job data, with attribution your agency can never match.

Parts of that pitch are true. Here is the honest version, from an agency that regularly works alongside it.

    What Marketing Pro actually is

Marketing Pro is a set of add-on modules inside ServiceTitan:

    • Email: automated campaigns triggered by the customer and job data already in your system. Unsold estimate follow-ups, maintenance reminders, membership renewals, seasonal tune-up pushes.
    • Reputation: review requests after completed jobs, review monitoring, and response tools.
    • Ads: managed search campaigns with call tracking wired into ServiceTitan, so ad-driven jobs show revenue attribution.
    • Direct Mail: postcard campaigns targeted from your customer list, with tracking numbers.

Pricing is quote-based per module. Ad spend is billed separately from the software.

    Where it genuinely wins

The data advantage is real. Marketing Pro knows a customer's equipment age, last service date, estimate history, and membership status because ServiceTitan is the system of record. An unsold-estimate email sequence triggered by actual estimate data beats anything an external tool reconstructs from a CSV export.

Revenue attribution, not lead attribution. Because campaigns tie to jobs, you see revenue per campaign rather than form fills. That is the number owners actually want.

It cannot be ignored into failure. Automations keep running when everyone gets busy. For companies whose marketing has been sporadic, consistency alone produces a lift.

If your customer list has never had a systematic email program, the Email module frequently pays for itself. That is not agency-flattering, and it is true. Email to past customers is the cheapest lead source in the entire channel ranking.

    Where it stops

Nobody is doing strategy. Marketing Pro executes campaigns. It does not decide your positioning, your service-area expansion, which channels deserve budget, or why your booking rate dropped in March. A tool with good defaults is not a plan.

The Ads module is managed-lite. Campaigns are competent and templated. What you do not get: custom landing pages, aggressive negative-keyword work, creative testing, Local Services Ads management, or someone accountable for cost per booked job trending the right direction. In competitive metros, templated campaigns bid against specialists.

No SEO, no website, no content. The compounding channels, local SEO, site speed, review-velocity strategy beyond the ask-email, live entirely outside Marketing Pro. Your website's conversion rate multiplies every channel, and no module touches it.

Attribution flatters the tool. Job attribution inside ServiceTitan is genuinely good, and it still undercounts the messy middle: the customer who saw your truck, read reviews for a week, then clicked an ad. Treat any single-source attribution, including this one, as directional.

    The decision, by stage

    Your situationSensible setup
Under $2M, already on ServiceTitanMarketing Pro Email + Reputation. Skip the Ads module until call handling and reviews are solid.
$2M to $5M, growth is the constraintMarketing Pro for automation, plus outside help for paid media, SEO, and the website.
$5M+, multi-truck or multi-locationAgency-led strategy and channel management, with Marketing Pro as the automation layer it is best at.
Not on ServiceTitanThis question answers itself. Buy marketing help, not a platform add-on.

The hybrid most operators should run

The framing of tool versus agency is mostly false. The setup we see work, including at companies we serve:

    1. Marketing Pro runs email automation and review requests, because it owns the job data.
    2. An agency runs strategy, paid media, SEO, landing pages, and creative, because those are judgment work.
    3. Both read the same ServiceTitan attribution, so arguments happen over shared numbers instead of competing dashboards.

The failure mode in both directions is the same: buying the Ads module, or hiring an agency, while your call answer rate sits at 70 percent. Fix capture first. The math on why is in what missed calls actually cost.

    FAQ

What does Marketing Pro cost? Quote-based, sold as modules on top of ServiceTitan. Operators commonly report several hundred to over a thousand per month, with ad spend billed separately.

Does it replace an agency? It replaces sporadic email and review-request work. It does not replace strategy, paid media management, SEO, or website work.

Can an agency work alongside it? Yes, and that hybrid is usually the strongest setup: Marketing Pro for job-data automations, agency for judgment work, one shared attribution source.

Is it worth it for a small company? Under roughly $2M and already on ServiceTitan: the Email and Reputation modules, yes. The Ads module before your capture is fixed: no.
